Located on the Pacific Coast in Southwestern Mexico just eight miles from Guatemala, Puerto Chiapas is a cruise ship port that consists of small fishing village and a craft market.

Puerto Chiapas is located in the Mexican state of Chiapas, and offers a gateway to the Izapa Mayan ruins and an archaeological musemum in nearby Tapachula.
Volcí¡n Tacaní¡, Central America’s second highest peak at 13,320 feet, can be seen from the port.
Five Fun Facts about the Puerto Chiapas, Mexico
1. Chocolate lovers, according to USA Today, will enjoy the shore excursion to Tuxtla Chico, which includes a visit to Mi Pueblito, where local women demonstrate the process of turning cacao beans into chocolate.
2. The state of Chiapas, Mexico is well-known for its coffee production. German immigrants to the area in the 1880s led to the establishment of many coffee plantations in the region. Growing coffee is still a mainstay of the area’s economy. You can visit coffee plantations from the port.

3. The ancient ruins of Izapa are about a 45 minute bus ride from the port. Izapa began as a small village sometime around 1500 BC but thanks to its production of cacao, grew to an cultural and commercial center with a population of 10,000 between 60 BC and 100 AD. Izapa is believed to be the site where the Mayan Calendar was first created.
4. March 22 is a public holiday celebrating the birthday of Benito Juarez, who occupied the presidency of the Republic in the second half of the 19th century.
5. Puerto Chiapas has a very hot and humid tropical climate, with average temperature in the mid-80s.
