Earlier this summer, while traveling to Decorah, Iowa for a Saturday wedding, decided to break up the Friday evening drive from the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport with a brief overnight stay in Rochester, Minnesota.
We choose the Hilton Garden Inn hotel, located in the heart of the charming downtown of Rochester. While Rochester’s population is only slightly more than 100,000 residents, the city draws more than 2 million visitors each year, many to visit the world-renown Mayo Clinic.
Here’s a look inside of Room 505 of the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown.
Upon opening the door of Room 505, the room looks exactly like most other well-maintained Hilton Garden Inns. The king bed dominates the room, but is comfortable, and there is a well-appointed desk and chair for working travelers.
There is a refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker and microwave, helpful for longer stays.
The bathroom was standard, and a little worn, but very functional.
While the bathroom toiletries were fairly spare, there was once touch I appreciated.
The Makeup Remover Wipe — such a small thing that many hotels overlook, but not this Hilton Garden Inn.
Our bottom line on the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Rochester, Minnesota, hotel:
- The hotel offers an excellent location in downtown Rochester that is attached to the Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota, and is within easy walking distances of a number of shops and restaurants.
- If we were visiting Rochester in the winter, we’d appreciate that the hotel connected to the Rochester Skyway System.
- We enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the on-site restaurant.
- The staff was welcoming and friendly.
- The parking lot was packed, and costs $13 per day.
- The hotel is a Hilton Honors Category 4 for award stays, which seemed a fair value.
- While the hotel is a little dated, we’d stay again for a quick weekend stay in downtown Rochester.
