We stayed one night in the Hilton Hotel in New York City’s Fashion District over a Saturday night prior to setting sail on a cruise from Manhattan’s Cruise Terminal.
We chose the Hilton New York Fashion District hotel because of its central location in Chelsea and New York City’s Garment District. We liked that it was within walking distance of the High Line Park that we wanted to explore, as well as trendy neighborhoods such as Tribeca, SoHo, Greenwich Village and the Meatpacking District.
We booked our room by using Hilton HHonors award points. This hotel is a category 7 award level Hilton, requiring 50,000 Hilton HHonors points per night — the same rate as other New York City Hilton Hotels.
The hotel’s decor pays homage to its Garment and Fashion District location. The artwork above the reception area is made from spools of thread.
The “spool” theme is continued on the reception desk. From the first moment of check-in, we found the staff to be friendly and efficient.
Our assigned room was 2010. The hotel room doors have round keypads that read your room key card with a touch of the card, rather than inserting into a slot.
The rooms are relatively small but the space is used wisely.
The desk area long and spacious, with a large flat-screen television on the wall above it.
The windows offer an impressive view of New York City.
Wall art in the room continues the sewing theme.
We were excited to find a Keurig, our favorite coffee machine. It works a little differently than the home version.
The minibar was stocked with familiar drinks and snacks with relatively reasonable prices for New York City.
The bathroom was small and stark……
with only a shower….
but was stocked with Peter Thomas Roth toiletries, including the refreshing mouthwash, our favorite.
We’ve discovered that for some strange reason, some Hilton Hotels do not include mouthwash among their toiletries. Note to Hilton: skip the lotion and the facial soap bar if you must cut something, but please keep the mouthwash.
The RARE View Rooftop Lounge offers delicious drinks made from fresh ingredients (such as fresh watermelon juice.)

Rare is the steak and hamburger restaurant on the first floor and lower level.
Breakfast includes the unique option of a hamburger garnished with an omelet, something that tastes better than it sounds.
