A Look Inside the Kempinski Hotel at Munich Airport

Recently I had a quick trip to Munich, Germany from Newark with only a one-night stay between my arrival and departure. With such a short turn-around time, I wanted a hotel close to the airport.

Kempinski Hotel Airport MunichI chose the Kempinski Hotel because it is located right next to the Munich airport between between Terminal 1 & 2. Signage in the airport directs you to the hotel.

Kempinski Hotel Airport MunichYou reach the Kempinski Hotel via a covered walkway from the Munich airport, a nice feature during the winter and inclement weather.

Kempinski Hotel Airport MunichBuilt in 1994, the Kempinski Hotel Airport at Munich (its official name) is a stylish modern hotel.

Kempinski Hotel Airport MunichMost exciting for me, after an overnight flight from Newark, was the hotel had a nice room for me available immediately when I checked in around 7:30 am.

I found my room to be nicely decorated, with a functional work area.

Kempinski Hotel Airport MunichInteresting in the hotel’s elevators, you just tapped your key and the elevator knew which floor to stop on for you.

Kempinski Hotel Airport MunichIn the hotel bar, I tried the traditional Munich Weibwurst with sweet mustard and a pretzel.

The breakfast included traditional European breakfast items as well as made-to-order eggs, bacon and other typical full American breakfast items.

My bottom line on the Kempinski Hotel Airport Munich:

Pros:

  • The location can’t be beat for a quick business meeting or long layover in the Munich Airport.
  • The Kempinski staffers were both very friendly and yet very professional.
  • By joining the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) loyalty club, a collection of 27 upscale and luxury regional hotel brands from across the world, before I arrived, I was able to get free internet immediately.
  • My request for early check-in was granted; I was in my room by 07:30 am (if was a Saturday morning, which may have helped.)
  • The hotel is only a 5 minute walk to S-Bahn, to catch a 40 minute train to the city.
