We’re spending the weekend in Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s largest city, about two and a half years after our last visit. Here are a few photos from our discoveries today: 
The modern-day Milwaukee Public Market –bursting with a variety of fresh food options –opened in 2005 in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward. 
The Milwaukee River runs through downtown Milwaukee before it empties into Lake Michigan. The name ‘Milwaukee’ is thought to come from Native American language meaning ‘gathering place by the water’. 
Many of us know Milwaukee from Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley, two television shows that were set in Milwaukee. Along the Riverwalk, a life-sized bronze status of Fonzie commemorates Milwaukee’s connection those shows. 
The lady bugs are invading Milwaukee. Nicknamed “the ladybug building”, the Milwaukee Building is located one block east of the Riverwalk at 618 N. Water Street. 
Downtown Milwaukee features many historic buildings. This one — the Public Service Building — dates to 1905 and today is WeEnergies. 
While it was quite warm in Milwaukee today, we noticed many tunnels connecting buildings throughout downtown, indicating the weather is likely far different in January than it is at the end of August. 
One of Milwaukee’s cherished traditions is the Friday Fish Fry. On Fridays, every Milwaukee restaurant and pub has one on their menu. This example is from Buck Bradley’s. 
German immigrants and a steady supply of wheat and barley made Milwaukee synonymous with beer since the 1850’s. Milwaukee was home to 25 breweries inn 1856, and was once home to four of the world’s largest breweries: Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst and Miller. While only Miller remains as a major brewery, beer of all types is omnipresent in Milwaukee.
