Travel Adventures with Flat Stanley, Part 4

Flat Stanley visits Hannah in Odessa, Texas

For our niece Justina’s third grade class project, we traveled with Flat Stanley during November and December. We agreed to return Flat Stanley to Mrs. Petsche’s third grade in Harlan, Iowa by Christmas.

Stanley, however, had other ideas.  He really wanted to go with us aboard our cruise on Holland America Line’s newest ship, the Nieuw Amsterdam.

This is the fourth post on Flat Stanley’s adventures while he was Traveling with the Jones.

What a beautiful ship

Flat Stanley poses by the rail as the Nieuw Amsterdam sailed out of Ft. Lauderdale for a 7-day Caribbean cruise.  Bad weather changed the planned itinerary, but Stanley got to visit Belize, Grand Cayman and Key West, Florida during his cruise.

What a funny name for a beautiful bay

The ship anchored near Georgetown, Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.  Passengers –including Flat Stanley — rode tender boats into the port.  Flat Stanley could not figure out why such a beautiful place is named “Hog Sty”.

Mailing a postcard to Justina from the Cayman Islands

Flat Stanley mailed another postcard to Justina.  He got to see postal mailing boxes in six different countries during the last two months.  The mail is slower to arrive from some parts of the world.

Stanley also visited Odessa/Midland area of Texas, where he was delighted to meet Hannah, a third grader who is excels at spelling and multiplication tables.

Well, that’s the last of Flat Stanley’s adventures on Traveling with the Jones.  He is back in an envelope, enroute to Mrs. Petsche’s third grade at Harlan Community Schools in Iowa.
