One of the most popular things for visitors to Barcelona, Spain to experience is the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, often simply referred to as La Boqueria. It is located off the busy La Ramblas.

The market dates to 1840. Inside, you will find stall after stall of fresh produce.

Since Barcelona is on the Mediterranean Sea, there is of course a large, diverse supply of fish and seafood for sale.

A trip through La Boqueria is more than a trip through a market. It shows you the culinary diversity of fresh ingredients that you will find in Barcelona’s cuisine.

You can also enjoy a cup of coffee or a meal from a number of tiny restaurants or food stalls within the market.

Interspersed between the food stalls you will find a few tiny restaurants or food bars where you simply grab a stool at the counter.

If you are planning a trip to Spain, allow an hour or so to take in the La Boqueria market.

You might want to take a tour of the market with a chef and have a cooking lesson.
