A Perfect Lunch in Sonoma Wine Country

Enjoying the Tuscan lunch and wines at Kachina Winery

Last weekend we visited San Francisco and spent a day touring Sonoma Wine Country with four friends.

When visiting Sonoma County, we have a long list of favorite wineries – and never enough time. There’s Hanna   – with lovely Sauvigion Blanc and Bismark Mountain reds (and the site of our wedding reception); Rafanelli   – our favorite Zinfandel; Ferrari-Carano for its impressive gardens and Quivira   – for its quirky cow horns and delicious biodynamic wine.

Greg & Nancy Chambers, Kachina winemakers

For this trip, we wanted to find a winery with a non-oaky Chardonnay.  Our friend Glenn — wine industry insider and winemaker/owner of Puccioni Vineyards —  recommended Kachina Winery in the Dry Creek Valley.

Thanks Glenn. If you like good food and wine in a beautiful setting, then you will want to make a reservation to visit Kachina Vineyards at 4551 Dry Creek Road  near Healdsburg, California. The small, 1000-case production winery is completely solar-powered.

Greg and Nancy Chambers are the proprietors and wine makers of Kachina, an off-the-beaten-path winery.

She makes the whites; he makes the reds.

Delightful hosts, the Chambers pour their wines in a tranquil setting on the patio.

We choose the Tuscan Lunch pairing with an array of cheeses, breads, cured meats, a marinated olives and tomato salad.

All were served under the Dry Creek sun the winemakers poured Kachina Chardonnay and several vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon.

For dessert, Port Truffles were paired with Vintage Port, straight from the barrel.  (the port will be released in October.)

Kachina Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley, CaliforniaKachina also offers other tasting options and hosts events for up to 30 people.

We enjoy wine and exploring the world’s wine-producing regions.  Where would you have a “perfect” lunch in Sonoma County?  What wines would you want to be drinking?      Please share in comments.
